Leslie Speer, Founder, Terra Manufacture
“After an epic 30+ years in academia, both teaching and being inspired by colleagues and students, this new adventure in life takes all that I have learned over the years and is transforming that knowledge into connected activities that aim to heal the soil, the mind, and the body. Working with my hands, whether in the metal studio or on the land, creates a space for creativity and an opportunity for discovery.”

Founding Chair & Professor of Product Design Department, The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA)
Leslie developed curriculum, recruited faculty and students, and built collaborations with industry (Emeco, Procter and Gamble, Stanley Black and Decker, and various regional organizations and start ups). Managed growing department budget, built out large facility and studio, and designed and implemented Minor in Product Design with specialized tracks in Sustainability, Entrepreneurial Mindset, Making, and Social Design. She also teaches sophomore through senior studio courses with focus on sustainable design, social design, and entrepreneurial design mindset.
