Experience  & Service Design

This award is focused on Experience Design. This relatively new discipline goes under several names, like Service Design, UE, UX, XD and Experience Design. It’s about analyzing, designing and improving the user’s experience, from the beginning of the development cycle through design, manufacture, marketing, sales, to the showroom interiors, interfaces, graphics, through service and ultimate disposal.

Designing customer engagement employs an all-encompassing, holistic focus. It may be applied to all sorts of users in every system and industry.

Judging Process

In Phase 1, Spark Experience is entirely “virtual.” That is, it is entered, conducted and judged online, over the Spark website. No materials, boards or designs are delivered to Spark in Phase 1. If the work is adjudged a Finalist, it will be included in Phase 2, which is judged by a live jury. For Phase 2 we do ask for physical examples of the entries– actual products, models, display boards, etc.

Experience Awards Jury

Spark was honored to present a jury of very talented judges for our ninth competition. Every year the jury is new, gathered with the help of our Jury Chairs, Advisers and Community members. The Jurors come from across the spectrum of design disciplines, media, educators and experts.

The 2015 Spark Experience Jury applied the Spark Mission and Criteria and brought the highest standards to the task of selecting Spark’s Finalists and Winners.
