Dr Hyun-Jae ‘Daniel’ Shin, Associate Professor & Dean, Yongsei University
Dan is an academic, researcher, and designer operating at the intersection of design, technology, and sustainable innovation. He currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Design at Yonsei University, where he holds concurrent leadership appointments as the Deputy Dean of the Graduate School of Human Ecology and Director of the Yonsei University Design Centre.

Dr Shin’s extensive international career spans the US, UK, and Vietnam, where he has led multidisciplinary teams across diverse design sectors. His professional background encompasses roles as a Package Designer, Furniture Designer, and Web Designer, complemented by his work as an expert consultant providing strategic guidance to SMEs on sustainable business futures. An established innovator, he holds several Patents for various design innovations. His scholarly work is grounded in Design for Sustainable Behaviour and speculative design, with a particular focus on design-led interventions for behavioural change. Dr Shin is a multi-time recipient of the Best Teaching Award at Yonsei University and was a finalist for the EAUC Green Gown Award. He also leads the Speculative Thinking and AI Research Centre and contributes to the academic community as a Board Member of the Korean Society of Design Science.
