My Olympic Torch concept is the only torch that communicates then transforms during the passing of the flame. The concept brings torch design in line with modernity. It embodies Rio de Janeiro’s unique Carioca culture, which is rich in diversity and symbiotic in nature. The three faceted tiers represent this diversity, spiraling upward, elevating the spirit of the torch bearers and the torch relay spectators around the world. The torch has a new dimensionality unrealized by previous designs; a transformation takes place each time a new torch is lit in the relay. The first torch communicates with the next via a bluetooth wireless system, passing on location data. E-ink display stars (representing the stars of the Brazilian flag) then come to life up the length of the body, marking the passing progressively, as the torch passes through each of Brazil’s twenty-six states. Once aflame, each of the three supplemental burners light in bursts, in a revolving elevating sequence, creating an additional visual spectacle.
