SPRING is a pioneering accelerator that supports entrepreneurs and businesses whose products and services have the potential to transform the lives of adolescent girls living in poverty worldwide. The first cohort was launched in Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda, and the program has expanded since into Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Ethiopia and Tanzania. SPRING identifies local entrepreneurs and provides design expertise and financial support/mentorship in order to catalyze the scalability of their businesses. Each business that goes through the SPRING program needs to have some sort of impact for girls living in poverty, whether it is safety, education, hygiene, or financial support. After a rigorous re-design and restructuring of the business, the entrepreneurs then spend nine months working directly with girls, getting their feedback, and ensuring that their business model maximizes impact for their target audience. Backed by Nike Foundation, USAID and UKAID, SPRING combines design and a for-profit model of aid to help create a dialogue between entrepreneurs and their communities, maximizing the positive impact businesses can have on the people around them.
