Originally requested by AIGA Boston, I designed a symbol that celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston. This graphic, a Data Matrix, represents the open and constant flow of energy associated with the dynamic programming of this unique cultural site. To create a connection between the symbol and the ICA, I used a data matrix, which is similar to QR Code, containing the url of the ICA. The color palette and water-shaped module are emblematic of the location of the ICA near the waterfront. Whether displayed on a poster or worn as a t-shirt, this graphic offers a direct link to the ICA website when scanned with any mobile scanning application. Three hundred of t-shirts with the symbol were manufactured and sold as a limited edition in the museum store.
