Yunwoo Jeong

Yunwoo Jeong, Professor of Design & Engineering, UNIST, Graduate School of CDE

Unlike from most Korean Professors, Prof. Jeong has a professional design background, not a research background. He has worked at Hyundai, Volkswagen group/Bentley and at GM as a designer, senior designer and group leader for over 10 years. He has ‘identity and trend,’ multi brand and cross cultural experience from North American, European and Korean automotive companies. His insights about ‘T3 – Tomorrow, Trend & Identity’, has contributed to many successful projects. Yunwoo was a main exterior designer of 2009 Chevrolet Cruze, Cadillac concept model and future models for Bentley. Yunwoo lead the Hyundai Genesis G80 & G90 exterior design group since joining Hyundai in 2010.

He studied BA(2003), MA(2005) for Industrial Design at SNU – Seoul National University. His other MA (2008) is Vehicle Design at RCA – Royal College of Art. Recently he received a Doctor of Design (2017) at SNU with a theme ‘The Three-dimensional Operation System and the Design Innovations of the Future Mobility’.

Since joining UNIST in 2014, Yunwoo has started industry projects with global companies like LG Electronics, Renault, Hyundai Motor Group, Mando and the National Government.

From micro mobilities, cars, yachts to Hyper-loop and aero space-ships, Yunwoo’s design exploration is still expanding. Because ‘Transportation’ is about the nomad instinct of human beings, its study can truly bring us to a new future.
