Pip Tompkin

Pip was born in Nottingham, England. He graduated top of his year with 1st class honors majoring in Industrial Design from Northumbria University in Newcastle. He then attended The Royal College of Art in London and gained a Masters of Industrial Design with a special examiners distinction.

After graduating, he worked with both architecture and design companies in England, Norway, Sweden, Finland, China, Korea and The Netherlands, before moving to the United States in 2001. From 2001 -2005 he worked as a consultant to Dell, helping develop iconic and successful products for the gaming, education, consumer and enterprise markets. In 2005, he relocated to Los Angeles, accepting a Senior Design position at Nokia with a focus in developing phones for North American, European and Asian markets. During Pip’s three years at Nokia, his designs and thinking significantly increase sales of key products by millions, exceeding sales expectations. Pip also served on a board in Helsinki to create and align design strategies for Nokia’s Global portfolio.

In December of 2008 Pip announced the launch of his design studio. Pip Tompkin’s philosophy, ‘Assume Nothing’, together with his ‘Big Think Big idea’ methodology and ‘Design for the Unknown’, has helped develop award winning products and brands for numerous businesses; start-up and large corporations around the world. He actively promotes design education and his work has appeared in many publications.
