Gerard Furbershaw, LUNAR Cofounder & Senior Advisor

Over his three-decade career at LUNAR, Gerard received recognition in numerous product design books as well as annual design competitions. The University of Southern California’s (USC) School of Architecture selected him as its 2012 Distinguished Alumnus. In 2014, LUNAR received the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum’s National Design Award for Product Design in recognition of its body of work.

Gerard has contributed articles to IDSA’s Innovation magazine, Machine Design, Plastics Design Forum and the Society of Plastics Engineers. He has been a speaker for IDSA, the Association of Professional Design Firms (APDF), Society of Plastics Engineers, the Design and Engineering Show, as well as for a number of design schools.

Prior to the acquisition by McKinsey & Company, Gerard served as LUNAR’s Vice President of Licensing and Investments, overseeing LUNAR’s royalty programs, product startups and its client stock holdings. In In 2013, he played a key role in launching the Belle-V ice cream scoop on Kickstarter.

He launched and chaired the APDF Royalty and Licensing Summit series and taught at the USC School of Architecture’s XED executive education program. He was also an adjunct professor in San Jose State University’s Industrial Design Program teaching design entrepreneurship.

He has served as President and Chairman of the Board of APDF, Chair of the San Francisco Chapter of IDSA and a Trustee of the Design Foundation. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from USC and a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design from San Jose State University.
