Dan Sturges, Transportation Consultant Dan is a transport designer, entrepreneur, teacher, and visionary. He works to evolve urban mobility from its current auto-dependent, monolithic state to something much more dynamic, diverse and sustainable. Mr. Sturges commercialized the first Neighborhood Electric Vehicle early in his career - a new federally recognized class of personal transportation. Trained as an automotive designer at Art Center College of Design, he developed broad experience having worked for General Motors, frogdesign, the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC-Davis, Calstart, among others. He has lectured on sustainable mobility at John Hopkins University, the Museum of Modern Art, and TED. His work has been reported on in publications such as Wired, Automobile, and GOOD magazine. Mr. Sturges currently serves on the National Transportation Research Board’s Committee on New Public Transportation Systems and Technology (AP020). Mr. Sturges works today as a consultant to companies and policy-makers alike from Boulder Colorado. In 1995, Dan designed and produced the first NEV, the Neighborhood Electric Vehicle, making him a true pioneer of today's electric car movement. "It's been fun for me to see our little NEV trolling about Russia at the G8 Summit. Seems Mr. Putin of Russia is a fan of our B9 little buggies. It just shocks me to see this design have this kind of life and makes me excited about what we are really able to do with a meaningful budget! (The picture attached shows our first 6 produced NEVs in Columbia, Missouri at the company we contracted to build them). While the early models were really rough in build quality, we must have done something right with our design for them to live so long. (editor's note: 16 years and counting on this design and 32,000-plus produced - the most popular battery EV in history)." .jpg)
